Meet Your Team
Dr. Colby’s “Lucky Break” sets a foundation for his dental career, and creates a goal for providing outstanding patient care, comfort and trust. He will never forget the day. It was a November Saturday morning in fifth grade, the day he was playing sandlot football and shattered his front teeth.
“My dentist, Dr. Brownlow, immediately took care of me when I honestly thought that I would never be able to smile again,” Dr. Colby says. “Looking back, this was–quite literally–my ‘lucky break’ because it introduced me to a profession that most people don’t appreciate until they have a bad experience.”
Dr. Colby has turned his youthful trauma into an accomplished career as a dentist. With more than 20 years of experience, he successfully provides a variety of specialty services, including advanced treatment of gum disease, treatment of difficult root canal procedures, restoration of implants, and treatment of many orthodontic conditions utilizing braces for both adults and adolescents.
He also enjoys seeing children and takes extra time to ensure they have a good experience, perhaps because he knows the feeling of sitting in the dentist chair. “I don’t like going to the dentist any more than my patients!” he says. “We understand how our patients really feel about coming to our office. That’s why our mission is to deliver preventive care so good our patients never have to see a dentist again!”
A graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Dr. Colby cares about one thing above all else: earning the trust of Oregon Dental Care patients. It’s a value he acquired early in life.
“It truly hurts me to hear stories from new patients about mistreatment and bad dental care they received elsewhere,” Dr. Colby says. “Growing up I only had two dentists. They were fantastic providers. They cared. Their work was long-lasting. They were trusted. When patients tell us they are getting the best care ever, I quietly thank Dr. Belvedere and Dr. Brownlow for their guidance.”
And for the freedom to keep smiling–even after a painful day on the playing field.Affiliations

Dr. Gay has a simple rule of thumb with every patient he sees. “Regardless of who they are, I treat them like they are a member of my family,” he says. “If they sit in my chair, they will get quality work done.”
Dr. Gay aspired to be a dentist from the time he was 14. It was then his braces came off, and he experienced a life-changing difference. He could once again smile without feeling ashamed. “What a huge thing to allow a person to smile again,” he realized at a young age. Some years later he graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in Minneapolis, Minn. And completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency that involved advanced oral surgery techniques for wisdom teeth and IV sedation.
Self described as “quite fastidious” in any work he performs, Dr. Gay’s thoroughness extends to the time he takes with patients to instruct them on preventive care. “My approach is to take them back to a healthy condition, help them keep their mouths clean and avoid future problems.”
Dr. Gay is highly skilled at root canals, crown and bridge and extraction and has extensive experience working with adults and children on a full range of dental needs. He is a member in good standing of the American Dental Association.
An Air Force veteran, Dr. Gay devotes his spare time to his wife, Jackie, and their two young boys. He finds time here and there for playing his guitar, biking, camping and reading.

Dr. Shakespear says, “Nothing is better than working with a patient who is embarrassed to smile and then see them smile again for the first time after completing treatment.”
A graduate of the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Shakespear strives to build a lasting relationship of care with his patients. He has experience across a wide variety of dental procedures, including tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, implant restorations, root canals, dentures and extraction.
“Dental care has grown and is much more than fillings and extractions. The health of your mouth affects your overall health, not to mention your interaction with others. No one needs to be embarrassed about their smile; we have options,” he says.
Dr. Shakespear works with each patient as a team to provide individual preventive care solutions for optimal oral health. His goal is to maintain healthy tooth structure and treat oral disease in an effort to resolve existing concerns and prevent future problems. “I strive for the least-invasive procedure that will provide the most long-term success.”
Dr. Shakespear, who speaks Spanish, enjoys spending time with his wife Christi, their three children and Sasha, their basset hound. Dr. Shakespear has completed more than 300 hours of continuing dental education and is a member in good standing of the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Vu says, “I am passionate about providing the highest possible quality of care for my patients and exceeding their expectations,” says Dr. Vu, who was voted one of Eugene’s top dentists in 2011. “The opportunity to meet their needs and improve their overall oral health is deeply satisfying.”
He has enjoyed practicing in Eugene since 2002, after receiving his Doctorate in Dentistry from Indiana University and graduating top of his class in clinical training. He has received advanced training in all aspects of general dentistry, including extensive training in Implantology. Dr. Vu has performed more than 1,500 cases of root canal therapy and other procedures, including dental implants, extractions, dentures, crowns and bridges.
Dr. Vu’s philosophy is heavily focused on preventive dentistry for children and adults: “I encourage and recommend all new patients and those seen on emergency basis to return for a comprehensive exam. This gives me the opportunity to develop long-term relationships and work on improving my patients’ overall oral health. The patients like it, too, because they experience fewer invasive procedures, less discomfort and lower costs.”
Dr. Vu and his wife, Tristen devote their free time to family and traveling. They also enjoy snowboarding, biking and watersports. Dr. Vu is a member of the American Dental Association.
